New principal of the RWTH starting August 2018

The 51-year-old Professor Dr. Ulrich Rüdiger is the successor of Prof. Dr. Ernst Schmachtenberg. With the retirement of the latter, Ulrich Rüdiger will become the new principal of the RWTH Aachen University from August 2018.

Since autumn 2009 Ulrich Rüdiger is the principal of the University Konstanz where he previously hold the professorship of experimental physics. As the new principal of the RWTH Aachen, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Rüdiger will return back to his old place of activity:
Rüdiger studied physics at the RWTH Aachen from 1988 – 1994. Subsequently, he also obtained one’s doctorate and habilitated at the RWTH. Now he will come back as the new principal of the RWTH where the University’s Assembly elected him for a six-year tenure at the beginning of March.
