10 years INB of the University of Applied Sciences Aachen

At the 10-year anniversary of the Institute for Nanotechnology and Biotechnology (INB) of the University of Applied Sciences Aachen Prof. Dr. Baumann, prinicpal of the University, and the attendees looked back at the institute’s development. Numerous scientific publications, successful doctorates and external funds in the amount of ten million euro indicate the successes of this development. Within the framework of the ceremonial symposium this ‘successful story’ was appreciated. In this context Prof. Dr. Baumann particularly referred to the persistence of the INB’s founding director Prof. Dr. Michael J. Schöning.

Even 10 years ago, the joint target of the INB’s founding fathers Prof. Schöning, Prof. Baumann, Prof. Dr. Manfred Biselli, Prof. Dr. Arnold Förster and Prof. Dr. Arshak Poghossian was to merge the two ‘pivotal technologies of the 21st century’ – both Nanotechnology and Biotechnology. Especially with the possibility of interdisciplinary research at the campus Jülich of the University of Applied Sciences Aachen, both technologies were brought together.

Retrospectively, the head of the institute Prof. Michael J. Schöning also accounts the felicitous cooperation with the Phillips University of Marbug, the KU Leuwen and the research center Jülich responsible for the success of the previous ten years. Herewith, doctorands can mutually work in their respective laboratories.

Also the chairman and the CEO of MedLife e.V., Dr. Simon Dietz and Christa Roos attended the ceremoinal symposium. There is a close bond with the INB as the deputy head of the institute Prof. Dr. Wagner is also board member of the association. Additionally, the institute’s head Prof. Dr. Schöning consented his contribution in the advisory board of MedLife e.V. .
