Professor from Aachen is a ‘Leibniz – Best Minds’

Since the beginning of this year, Dr.-Ing. Laura De Laporte counts as one among five nationwide outstanding female scientists who obtained the appreciation ‘Leibniz – Best Minds’ and hereby, gets funded by the Leibniz Association’s program for female professors. Laura De Laporte develops biohybrid and bioinspired materials for medical applications, for example to regenerate damaged spinal cord tissue.

The recently established Leibniz Association’s program for female professors is part fo the initiative ‘Leibniz – Best Minds’. Herewith, both the Leibniz-internal, strategic competition as well as science on a high level shall be encouraged.

Since 2013 De Laporte conducts a junior research group at the DWI. In 2015, she already received an ERC Starting Grant of the European Research Council. Her research team develops new material concepts and fabrication methods to create functional biomaterials, which mimic the complex structure of natural tissues.

Laura De Laporte’s three-dimensional, biomimetic materials can either serve for ex vivo organ models or grow functional living tissues inside the body, directly.
