The upcoming Science Year titled “Future Lab 2016 Aachen” is intended to build a bridge between the Universities, research institutes and the citizenship. For all to see a harbinger of the Sciences Year has been installed at the city museum Centre Charlemagne. Professor Reinhart Poprawe, director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, handed over the exhibit “LIGHT”. LIGHT consists of head-high, ultralight plastic letters that have been manufactured by 3D-printing and are backlit by LED. An impressive example of the pioneering developments made in Aachen, which will be presented to the citizens within the forthcoming year.
