The Innovative Health Initiative Joint Undertaking (IHI JU) is a partnership between the European Union and industry associations representing healthcare sectors. The IHI JU aims to pioneer a new, more integrated approach to health research and builds on the experience of the Innovative Medicine Initiative 2 Joint Undertaking (IMI2 JU). Given the global nature of current health challenges and threats, the IHI JU should be open to participation by international academic, industrial and regulatory stakeholders in order to benefit from wider access to data and expertise, to respond to emerging health threats and to achieve the necessary societal impact, in particular improved health outcomes for the citizens of the European Union.
For-profit legal entities with an annual turnover of EUR 500 million or more and entities under their direct or indirect control are not eligible for funding.
A very helpful aspect of the IHI JU is that draft information on future calls is also openly available here. This is done to give applicants additional time to find or build a consortium and prepare a strong proposal.
Open calls
IHI call 4 is a two-stage call with topics on the 3Rs, patient-centric blood sample collection, clinical trials, and the environmental impacts of healthcare.
Deadline for short proposals: 8 November 2023
IHI call 5 is a single-stage call with topics on the 3Rs, theranostics, stroke management and synthetic data.
Deadline for full proposals: 16 January 2024
